Meetings held: Monthly on the fourth Friday of each month (except December); 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

Venue:  Wesley Hall, The Methodist Church, Perrymount Road.

 

This group is run on a Co-operative basis with members contributing as they are able. Nearly all the talks are prepared by individual members or groups of members on a topic in British history – social, political, economic, biographical. New members are most welcome.

 

A varied list of subjects will be taken throughout the year - mostly at the same venue.

24 November: John Humphries – ‘The Light of the Seven Sisters’.

26 January: David Waite – ‘Agincourt’.

 

23 February: Margaret & Bill Nicolle – Two talks entitled ‘Drunk for a penny, dead drunk for two pennies, straw for nothing’ and ‘The Origins and History of the House of Commons’.

 

23 March: Derek Barton – ‘Bernard Lovell & the Jodrell Bank Project.

 

27 April: Jenny Porter – ‘The Great Fire of London 1666’.

 

25 May: Anne Jones – ‘Famous Brighton People: Part 2’.

 

22 June: Ian Gledhill – ‘The Gilbert and Sullivan Story’.

 

Please note the ‘different from usual’ date for the December meeting, due to the incidence of Christmas. There are, of course, no meetings in either July or August.
